A Connection Between Consumers and the Land and People that Grow Your Food...

At Beretta Organic Farms we are aware of the importance of fostering a connection between consumers and the land and people that grow your food. To this end we host four activities that involve both customer and farmer and which are closely linked to the flow of the seasons of which we are so aware here on the land.

During the winter months we are open (snow permitting) for horse-drawn sleigh rides. Our two Percheron horses, Mabel and Ben, will pull the sleigh around our many acres while you enjoy the scenery, ask questions or even sing! Bring your skates and put our frozen pond to good use; or for those of you with more endurance, climb one of the hills around the house and toboggan down. These activities are all winter long, weather permitting (lots of snow and cold weather). Contact us and book a few hours with us, a wonderful family outing.

With the arrival of spring comes our traditional Barn Dance. Held in our barn, it includes callers, fiddlers, entertainment, food, drink and of course barn dancing! The dance is held towards the end of May (check this page out for the exact date). If last year was any indication, the event will sell out quickly.

Amidst the bustle of summertime activities we host an annual Farm Day. This includes a BBQ lunch, wagon rides around the farm, many activities for the children and hopefully a bit of education for everyone. Come out and see first hand how your food is raised. The cattle, pigs, sheep and chickens are out on pasture and you will appreciate for yourselves the health and vitality an organic farm provides.

As autumn approaches so too does the harvest. Mike is an avid "thresherman" and every year the farm uses traditional harvest methods to bring in a portion of the grain and straw crop. This involves binding, stooking and threshing the grain "just like the old days." This threshing bee generally takes about two weeks. You are welcome to come for any length of time and participate in this tradition. The hours are long, the community spirit is strong, and the meals will definitely make it all worth while!
